Description:
The October half-term is key preparation time, balancing rest and fun with focused academic and mindset work essential to exam success. Time to refine skills and techniques, and target any gaps in knowledge to return ready for the critical second half of term. All material is bespoke and unavailable outside of the course. Each day begins with confidence and mindset work, a focused activity that strengthens as the week goes on. This short daily starter establishes a positive and powerful foundation ready to introduce the academic sessions, the threads of which are weaved throughout all teaching and learning each day. A ‘can do’ attitude to embrace challenge and create the most progress without limit. The goal is to instil skills to help manage the pressurised examination process and beyond. The English classes are focused on Comprehension skills working in granular detail through the text, deep analysis and annotation skills, a variety of question types and structuring answers with precision (PETEE). Meticulous in making a clear point, choosing appropriate evidence, naming the technique and explaining the effect. Writing skills are linked to the comprehension work so that children understand the relationship – often thought of as separate skills. We identify and use the literary devices in descriptive writing, delivering a method that meets the examiner’s mark scheme. Following the examinations, many students have received letters from next schools commending their writing. How to approach a ‘Continue the Story’ task. Grammar. Vocabulary – developing a rich bank of words and using them in context. Every day ends working metacognitively to audit learning, goals and effort. All material is original and cannot be purchased. Papers will not feature in any other course. Delivered by qualified and experienced teachers with outstanding track records in entrance examination preparation and achieving school places. Expert feedback provided, schools advice and steps forward available if required.
